I used a 10cm long lint free video head cleaning swab with camera lens cleaning fluid on it, I opened the CD tray and swabbed all the metal parts that I could see. Should I have done something else?
oh ok that won't do. The bit that needs cleaning is the pickup which is a small lens about 5mm diameter. You usually can't see it with the tray open because the whole mech drops to allow cd in / out. You can buy proper cd's to clean the pickup. If it was anything but a computer drive I would recomend removing the lid and trying your method again but CDROMs are swines to pull apart - saying that if a automatic cd cleaner doesn't do it it might be worth a try, as cd cleaners don't always work!!
If that fails just buy a new one. In fact I just got a Liteon DVD writer for £20 from Microdirect. I picked up so I don't know how much they would charge to deliver...?0 -
Thanks for your fast response, I will get an automatic cd cleaner tomorrow and if that doesn't work I will go for a new one.:hello:0
