Abbey National

After some terrible storms last August our roof developed a small leak. Called Abbey who sent out a roofer to inspect the problem. After 5 mins roofer tells me roof is ok possibly slipped tile or something, roof has been fine since.

Abbey have sent me my renewal and now there is a claim for £50 on it for the roofer coming out?

Is this correct? thought there would'nt be a claim as no damage. silly me.

Looking for new insurance at the mo, will i have to declare this claim on new insurance applications?

Thanks

Martin

PS. anyone no of good cheap home & contents providers

    Hi mate,

I've just got a wicked quote from Barclays on home insurance. Would seriously recommend getting a quote. It only takes a min, probably the easiest quote engine on the net.

    Good luck!

It's normally down to the policyholder to substantiate a claim, i.e. prove that there is a loss under the terms of the policy.

On the other hand, insurers often appoint loss adjusters to investigate claims on their behalf. This is something a bit different, as the insurer has appointed a builder to investigate. I'm a bit surprised that there is a paid claim showing against your records.

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but there would be no harm in querying with the insurer. If you make no headway and wish to have a clear claims experience, you'll probably be able to pay the £50 back to the insurer and have the slate wiped clean.
