Just a quck update...
Her skin is all clear, fingers crossed it will last, she is still itching a little more than she should, but hopefully she will continue to improve.
What we have done-
Rock sulphur in water
Changed to a fish based food-James wellbeloved
Stopped the marrow bones, I hadn't considered these could be a problem until the penny dropped they are beef
Also bought these supplements
http://www.petmeds.co.uk/amiQure-Skin-and-Coat-Tablets-for-Dogs
Found some articles on the internet about biotin, seems it works for some breeds better than others, but thought it worth a try.
I also bought our other dog a bioflow collar, she has cruciate ligament problems in both legs, its early days yet, but I didn't tell OH she had it on and he commented she seemed full of life so i'm going to get another for this one.
Thanks again for all the advice offered :T0 -
Hi all . my dog has suffered from skin problems for about 2 years, we tried all the typical remedies, cider vinegar, Hydrocortisone cream etc but steroids from the vet seemed to be the only thing that helped. Recently we decided to try shampoo therapy so we bought derma pet from the vet http://www.dermapet.com/ it helped our dog and the wound started to heal after a few days."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0

Hi
We have a Labrador and he too suffers with a condition called 'Atopy'. This is common apparently in this breed and he too scratches, licks and becomes red raw. He also suffers with smelly ears occasionally and they do get swollen and he has to have a steroid injection for this as it is quicker to act than anything else.
Anyway, our vet told us not to feed him anything that contains beef. We have had him on Purina salmon & rice dry food for a while now and he seems ok with this. But we had to cut the titbits out as we didn't know what else he could be allergic to.
Occasionally he does have the odd flare up but it's much better now than it was.
Hope this helps some.
Cheers:pif i had known then what i know now0 -
Hi am not sure about the skin condition but I do recomend an online site that sells pet medications, www.petdispensary.co.uk I had to buy a few things for my dog and saved so much money and when I spoke to them there were very knowledgable and gave some very good advice. May be worth checking the site as they sell all the pets medications that you usually get at the vets.0

Hi my lovely dog has started to scratch alot, She hasn't got fleas although we are treating her just to make sure, she is on something bought from the vets, can't think what it is off hand. I have changed her usual food, from Senior tinned dog food to Chappie and also the dried food from Bakers to i am somewhat embarressed to say Cheap Sainsburys basic dried food. Do you think that it is this that is given her an allergy? I am going to stop giving her the dried food and go back to Bakers. I would love some advice please.

Hi demented
Well so far so good with ours at the moment :T itching has reduced again and is normal now. They both have lost a bit of weight too.
Its difficult with allergies as it could be so many things. Some dog foods have wheat, beef, additives and colourings etc can which can cause allergies in some dogs. It's worth changing back to a food you knew was ok. We were told to give it 6 weeks before we decided if a change was working or not.
There are interesting articles on the burns site that may help

I have a Lab x Rotty, she too suffers with red, itchy, weepy skin that she chews. I got a good cream from my vets called fuciderm which cleared it up great.
Theres 2 things that flares it up 1- flees shes highly allergic to them 2- stress, her last flare up was when she fell out with a relatives dog that we were looking after.
She too was on steroids for about a year then i was recommended to try some vitamins for her. Now daily in her food she has:
1 codliver oil tablet-for her bones
1 evening primrose tablet -for her skin
1 odourles garlic tablet for the flees, they hate garlic!
These are normal human tablets that i buy for about £5 for 365tablets in savers.
The oil i was buying from the vet was £20 for 3months worth and another vet told me it was jus the same as our evening primrose!
Sorry if i waffled but its wot i'm best at:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person touse the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.:D0 -
I also have a Mini Schnauzer and she is constantly scratching, has quite a few bite marks on her and patches where her skin has gone a browny/pink colour (is this normal?). I've only found a few fleas but I guess they are bothering her quite a bit. She was also like this in March and the vet gave her an injection to stop the scratching, treated her with Frontline and gave me some Fuciderm cream to help with the bites but it's just as bad now.
I obviously need to treat her again with Frontline and they have quoted me £6.95 for each treatment so I'll get some of that tomorrow and a larger supply on the internet for later treatments. I want to get the house treated as well but have only carpet on the stairs (floorboards/tiles everywhere else) and a leather sofa . I have floor length curtains and an old armchair which she sits on so they could get treated. She also sometimes sleeps on the beds during the day, what's the best way to treat these? Spray the mattress and put the sheets on a boil wash? I bathed her in Bob Martin flea shampoo tonight and only one flea fell off.
Lastly, I have a toddler so will the room sprays be safe with him around? I was thinking of getting the Vet kem Acclaim spray.
Sorry there's so many questions, hope someone can give me some hints!
ThanksCos I don't shine if you don't shine.0
