I doubt there is a template, just write and ask them the same way as you have posted your question here!

However, you can ask but assuming you are the tenant, you have no automatic right to be there.

    Dear Mr landlord,

Just a short note regarding the practicalities around the end of my tenancy.

As you know I shall be moving out on xx/xx/13 when the tenancy ends.

It would be helpful to us both if we met on that day,say at X O'clock, so that:

    * I can hand over the keys
    * we can jointly read/record the meters
    * you can complete the check-out inspection
    * we can discuss any other outstanding issues.

Please feel free to call me on 01234 567890 to confirm/re-arrange this.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your help over the period I have rented from you, and to hope you find a new tenant easily.

    Yours sincerely,

    A Tenant

ty for the help. im glad to be leaving that property. even though i had moved all of my stuff out since jan, i just could not take it any more as the landlord, letting agent had not done any repairs. my tennancy ends july 25. and the letting agents has been showing prospective tennats round and not locking doors/windows after viewings, meaning i have to do a 20 mile round trip several times a week to ensure the property is empty.this way i hand them the keys back ahead of end of tennancy and im not responsible if the property is left unlocked.

sorry for going on and on

You have paid rent since Jan and not lived in the property!
Insurance may well be an issue as no one is living in the place!!
Take lots of photos with date stamp when you hand the keys back ( with or without the agent)
Take photos of the meter readings and contact the gas/electric people so you have final readings and bills sorted ( give new address)
Inform the council you have moved out ( council tax)

i will be informing all relevant utiities etc. and will be taking pictures etc. i already informed the council.
the property is not habitable , all windows are rotten and when open they nearly fall off there hinges. even the window frames are rotten and is coming away from the house. the house has no ventilation vents at all.

the only vent is in the kitchen and that is blocked by a kitchen wall cupboard. the kitchen windows cannot be opened as they have rotten and the wood as kind of merged into the window frame. and for a house to only have 1 working electric heater, come on. the bath tub is a death trap. as there is live mains wire that run directly under the bath tub the is link to junction boxes, so when it gets damp or mist you get a nice electrical tingle when you step out of the bath. HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. the list just goes on an on. the letting agent and land lord dont want to do any repairs

Well since you have now provided a whole lot of new information, which in turn raises a whole lot of potential issues, my example letter above is probobly not appropriate/relevant.

I'm certainly not going to waste my time either drafting another, or trying to untangle the issues you've now raised, only to have you drip feed further important information later on.

You are still paying rent and therefore you are the tenant.
I would contact the council in the morning and ask for an inspection.
Have you been given a Gas safe certificate ( if it has gas?)
No point asking about an electrical cert???
WHY OH WHY did you rent a death trap?

i had to keep paying rent as it was a one year contract. and they would not release me from it there is a gas metter but no boiler, the letting agent said as there is no boiler a gas safety is not required. ive learnt from this is when renting inspect property properly and dont let agent bully u into saying they have other potential tennants. i have requeste council to inspect but never get a response
