Registered Post vs Special Delivery?

Options
I have a parcel to return to a company, and they emailed me to instuct that it should be sent by registered post. Now I thought registered post had dissappeared and this was now covered by 'Special Delivery'? Or is there something else I need to know about?

I have looked at the Royal Mail website but can't find any information on registered post at all - durr.....

My feeling is just to send it as Special Delivery today, but I don't want to get this wrong if there is something about 'registered post' which is different and required by the company concerned. I can't think what though - does anyone have any thoughts on this please?

Registered post was similar to Recorded Delivery except it was insured as well as tracked by signature etc.

As far as I am aware, you are correct that registered post no longer exists.

Special delivery options that include sufficient insurance to cover the cost of the item should be the equivalent of the old "registered" post. ;)

maybe they just mean to send it by an insured/tracked method

if it is worth less than £34 then send by recorded (signed for) delivery

if it is worth over £34 then send by special delivery

no you can still send registered, i did it just the other week, and all it means is a person has to sign for it

special is a lil faster and insures up to about £120 ish i think, in addition to the signature thing

do you mean recorded (signed for) delivery with insurance for up to £34? they are red/orange forms.

special delivery is guaranteed next working day with up to £500 insurance as standard. they are silver/grey forms.

Registered post doesn't exist. It simply is recorded delivery..

As pinkgem says use special for anything over the value of £34 instead of recorded.

Thanks for all the replies. I used Special Delivery as the value was over £34 - it cost me £19.45 to send the bl@@dy thing though! Hopefully I can claim this back though, as the item is faulty - which was why I was returning it.

Yes special delivery is rather expensive over 2kg! As far as i'm aware it's the only trackable method for valuable items available from royal mail. I hope you get a postage refund.

    WRONG.

What you are referring to is RECORDED.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
i work in a PO and we get this all the time (once a day at least??) people asking for registered..... I then find out if its valuable, urgent, important etc.

    The types are recorded/signed for
    and special delivery

I would recomend SD for any of the above reasons, its by by far the most reliable and secure way. I found that out, prior to my job so I am speaking here as a consumer as well!!
