If the heart condition went after the anal gland was expressed, you could try to get the vet to write a letter to the insurance company to get the heart condition exclusion taken off, as he doesn't actually have one.

My cat is now 17 and has been insured up until a year ago. The policy came up for renewal, the cost has been increasing steadily over the years, I have never had to make a claim as he has been of good health. I rang the company to cancel, they offered me a cheaper price, still not cheap enough. I have money put aside for vets if needed, but saying that, I don't believe in keeping an animal hanging on with all kinds of treatments, just to get a few more months. I will do the kindest thing when the time comes, he has had a great life here after I rescued him at 10 months old.
As much as I love him, he has to go sometime and I will make that passing peaceful for him.
