Outside lighting

Our lights have just gave up and we need new ones. We have PIR lghts either side of the front door. The lights at the end of the house are white, therefore we would like the new lights to be white. As these lights lasted 7 years I am sure there have been advances in lighting. What would be the best light to replace these and where would it be best to get them?

Hi Jo, The only advance in lighting, is that the bulbs don't last as long
Your request for lights is a bit vague.....if you don't mind me saying so
There are billions of different shapes colours sizes of lights etc etc not to mention whether you want halogens floods or spots or even low voltage low wattage, energy saving ec etc.
If they still make the white ones at the end of your house, why not see if they have those with a PIR attached ?
anyway, what's wrong with the ones you got ?? can't they be fixed ??
Give us an example of what you got at the front and I'm sure you'll get more info from the forum

My advise is to try and avoid outdoor lights that contribute to light pollution.
Basically those that shine skywards (like globe lights that dont have a cap)0 -

The PIR has stopped working on one of the lights and this means the 2 lights are on all day! The ones we have at the moment looks like these but are 4 sided. We want something similiar but in white. I would also like 180° angle of protection, that we can switch the light on ourselves and that it stays on for about 2 mins when switched on by the sensor.0 -

They do something similar in B and Q take a look there.
Ever thought about using low energy dawn to dusk bulbs ?
I use these in my side and rear lights, two of them cost about £12 from the Scottish power website.
They are a good burgular deterrant and overall costs less to run than typical 500w PIR floodlights.0 -

Thanks for responding! I never heard of low energy dawn to dusk bulbs. When I googled it, it found nothing! Can you give me a direct link, sorry?0 -

Just got a new screwfix catalogue through today.
They do lots of lighting like the ones you were interested in above. Good prices to.

We got our new lights today. :j They stay on between 5 seconds and 12 minutes. They can be set to come on at dusk and off at dawn. They can be set dimmer. They are the colour we wanted. They are similiar to our old ones. Now we just need to get them put up!
THANKS for all the help, now I will see where I am going!0
