Share Certificates: What does it mean?

Hi All,
First post so please be gentle with me
Way back in 1997 a friend told me about a "great" share, so long story short I ended up with 7,250 shares in Rodime PLC. Cost about £200 if memory serves.
In 2000 they changed name to Sportech PLC and wanted another £200 from me. I sent off the cheque and got a certificate for 4,833 shares.
On the Sportech share certificate it says, Existing Rodime certificates remain valid.
I just found these again at the back of a drawer, probably 12 years since I seen them and had totally forgotten about them.
My question is, do I now have 12,083 share in Sportech?
TIA
JBM

Living for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

Well at a share price of 80p, for £400 the OP therefore has shares worth over £9,500 - a 25% annualised compound return (approx).
Wish I had investments like that.0 -

At the end of 2004 they were just over £2 a share -

Despite what the OP and subsequent posts say, perhaps we are not comparing like with like? Maybe there has been a share consolidation between the year 2000 and the year 2003 shown in the above graph?0 -

I mailed Capita and in the reply:
"Please be advised that a capital reorganisation took place in December 2007 where shareholders in Sportech plc received 1 new 50p share for every 10 existing 5p shares held. Shareholders were issued with new share certificates."
So not as good a find as it first looked :rotfl:
1200 shares not 12,000, ah well that is life0 -
