Phone calls from france

Hi,
I am a regular user of MSE and have just moved to France.
Unfortunately, I cannot find a french version of MSE (they have absolutely no consumer power over here at all - the customer is always wrong).
We want to be able to make calls to friends and family in the UK, but cannot get a cheap all inclusive provider.
In the Uk there are dialing codes and companies that you can use that route your calls (after entering a number) reducing the calls to affordable rates.
Does anyone know of something similar that I can use in France.
Otherwise I will be dreading my first phone bill.
Many thanks
M

Some of these are account based; some are via a French 'local rate' 0811 or 0821 callthrough number that will go on the landline phone bill with no other charge; some may have both options
