Getting car insurance for my 19 year old daughter

Options
I would appreciate any advice here please.
My daughter is 19 and intends learning to drive this Summer.
I have a spare car, a Citroen C2, which she can use. However my policy is with SAGA, who have said I cannot include her on my policy.
Is there an company which will insure young learner drivers, or is it better for me to change the company I am with and include her on my policy?
Also, as she is at Cambridge University, with 2 years at least to go, and students are not allowed take their cars to Cambridge, is it possible to get a policy for just the periods when she would be home - approx. half the year?

Is your c2 currently insured? If not it needs to be sorn

As for your daughter if you want yearly policy you can go with collingwood learner driver they do 1 year policy around £1000 I think and if you transfer the car to her name collingwppd insurance will cover her car so you won't need to buy another insurance on top.

However if you want to keep the car in your name then you will also need insurance in your name and also in your daughters name if she wants to drive. You can be included as named driver on collingwood for free of charge as long as you can fulfil their criteria.

There are lots of companies like collingwood learners a quick google on provisional driver insurance or learner driver insurance will show you what your after.

Forgot to mention if the c2 is insured in your name you can also do weekly insurance with cld if your not then Your best option would probably be to get a full year. Read the no claims bonus entitlement after a year thou

There are companies that let you add learner drivers as named drivers but the problem is that when they become full license drivers the rates are not always the cheapest and if your daughter passes her test fairly quickly you might be left with a relatively high
price for the rest of the year. We used Quinn and it went up from £800 to £2000 when our daughter passed her test. The price was £500 lower for her as a named driver if we had got a qoute when she had passed so it was a premium for being a existing customer. This was a couple of years ago now.
Like you looked into getting insurance during uni holidays. LV was the cheapest and was more flexible but it depended on car. I could get insurance on my ciitroen picasso but not on my husbands car. A lot of people also use direct line they charge you an admin everytime you add a new driver as well as an adjustment to the premium. There is also a limit to how many days in the year and how many times you can do it. I worked out it was cheaper paying for a taxi. It is total madness . They would rather have youngster pass the test at 17 and not drive until they are 25 than let them carry on getting driving experience at a reasonable insurance rate.
