The "all jokes aside" pole fitness thread

The last thread I can find (and correct me if I'm wrong) fizzled out in 2011 - possibly due to the trolling.
Have taken up pole fitness (no not dancing - after 2 hours of training there is nothing seductive about me on a pole :rotfl:)
I love it (tho am black and blue and my 4 years old can climb better than me) and have bought my own x-pole sport (second hand :money:) which i am practising on a couple of times a week.
I am doing 'pole mission' - i know other groups call them by different names but can just about do the fireman, carosal (one ankle on pole one out behind you) is proving tricky and genie (one ankle crossed in front one crossed behind) is just confusing me.
I watch girls with only a year of practise under their belt and feel suitably rubbish!!! Wonder if others are new to the 'craze' or have more experience and can pass on tips.

Make sure you're reaching up the pole as high as you can when you do spins. Try not to cling on with your feet too much - I got horrendous bruising from that!

I am really jealous, I did look into this but couldn't afford it so started burlesque instead. I did try trapeze and silks but managed to put my back out, ,maybe when my core strength is a bit better I'll give it another go!0

ouch, you should getcarter it is soo much fun.
my class is £8.50 a week which i didn't think was tooo bad. my pole i got 2nd hand (£75).
HBS - I keep slipping my hand down by accident - think its cause i'm soo sweaty (TMI?). have ordered some griptite as it's supposed to be an anti-poersperant as opposed to a sticky so fingers crossed that helps a bit. I'm having to wipe hands/ pole after every attempt at the moment.
But YAY me - i finally perfected (well ok not perfected but it's good enough for me at the moment) fireman last night - YAY.
any tips for the ankle spins?? I have 'genie' and 'carosel' that i am no where near getting cause i end up brusing my ankle on the first or second attempt then it's too painful to keep going. I know I must be doing it wrong.
Tempted to get the PDC syllabus (trying to get an old second hand one is like finding unicorn poo) as it is their video that eventually made fireman click.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Point your feet - the pole should fit in the curve of your ankle.
Chalk (same stuff I use for powerlifting) should be as good as griptite and may be cheaper - just remember to wipe the pole a LOT - when I did classes we had to bring a towel and rub it down the pole after every couple of spins.

it doesn't lol i don't think my ankle has a natural curve :rotfl:
my 4yr old can now climb it perfectly  and kept trying to teach me!!!!
gonna pack in the practise for this week until class on Thursday and hope they can help the ankle situation.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
I've been doing pole fitness for the last 4 years and i love it - just got back from tonight's class actually. Having said that I have hurt my back a bit so need to get that sorted but it is amazing for toning everything up.
I used to get horrendously bruised to start with but eventually it will just come naturally the best way to connect with the pole. When I was learning shoulder mount I always used to end up with a huge welt on my collarbone - it used to ressemble a lovebite but I don't even get those now unless I'm reversing it.
I use 'Dry Hands' grip btw.
Keep at it - it works wonders for your self-confidenceIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
:DHiya
I hope you are all well.
I have been doing pole fit here in central scotland since march and I love it. my body does not love it as i bruise like a peach but really getting into it.
was goign to ask about chalk etc,
i will see if i can find dryhands online
remember point your toes ladies :-)0 -
i'm gutted....... have done something to my achillies tendon and it's been agony all week. pharmacist yesterday said to rest and not to do pole till it's healed....... it's feeling better today (yayay) but still achy
just as i'd ordered the pole motion dvd too was hoping for a play today while the house it empty.
think i'll be giving my weekly sessions a miss tho until it is cooler - the room was like a sauna before the sun came out.#
titegrip is good tho for sweaty hands - it dries out the hands without making your actual grip better (as you can't spin with chalk on).loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
I was wondering about this. Found a pole fitness class locally which is £40 for 6x weekly sessions but I have CFS/Fibro and was a bit worried it might be too much for me as I literally have NO strength anywhere!0

£40 for 6 x weekly sessions is a good deal. Is it one to a pole or more? Most schools will let you pay for just a taster if you want to give it a try, and many knock that cost off the rest of the course if you decide to sign up.
I'd say give it a go, it's not all about strength and you build up moves gradually. If you enjoy it you'll find your own style and the moves you enjoy. Plus, a good teacher will take into account any health issues and help you work with them. The strength takes time to build up for anyone just starting (unless they are already a gymnast, but then it's amazing that they can pull off some advanced trick moves, but ask them to do a spin and they can't manage it for toffee).Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
