Got one last night about 7:30 after a lovely first walk with our new puppy. Went into the garage to get drinks for the kids to find the freezer door wide open. Youngest had got Bacon out about 11:30 ish and had not !!!! the freezer door.
My first instinct was to !!!! the freezer door but I checked Louis' food (puppy) which was quite tightly packed and still frozen. Ice cream was melted and bread rolls were completely defrosted. I also have in there 4 40racks of ribs, countless WW desserts, pizza, fish, loads of stuff really which I didn't check. It's a tall freezer if that makes any difference. What should I do just chuck it all, try and eat some of it quickly bearing in mind that I have re-frozen it all.
Luckily not a massive amount of fresh meat in there, thought about claiming but already have a claim going through for kitchen worktop and not sure how much money in food in the freezer. Would need to do an inventory.
What do you suggest.

what I would do is chuck the stuff at the front to middle of the freezer as its been defrosted and eat the stuff towards the back thats is likely to have stayed frozen as quickly as you can and certainly within a month. Its not worth food poisoning!0

Can some be made into meals then frozen again. Like mince with pasta sauce or chicken into a casserole?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

This has happened to me several times. I didn't risk eating anything but anything like bread would be ok.0

It's the act of the food defrosting and then being re frozen that concerns me. My husband is going to check with a chef at work.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

It was 8 hours and the stuff will have defrosted slowly, as the freezer will have been going full pelt trying to keep the temperature down with the door open. No different to you taking stuff out to defrost on the worktop or in the fridge.
Cook up any basic ingredients into meals TODAY and freeze them again.
Use any ready made cookable stuff you can today and dump the rest of it.
Food doesn't suddenly grow food poisoning bacteria. They have to be there to start with and take time to breed.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I'm intrigued. What is it you were wanting to do to the freezer door that the more sensitive of us are being protected from?0

I've accidentally done this several times but due to a mixture of being poor and a tightwad I just shut the door and refroze everything.
In your position I would sling or eat the ice cream because it will form large ice crystals and won't be very nice to eat. I would also either bin the fish or cook it up into something -kedgeree, fish pie etc.
The bread and the pizzas will be ok. The meat should be ok as well. I don't know about the WW desserts (Weight Watchers?) If they are largely made from dairy products then it's probably best to throw them away.0
