I have a new comp windows vista home basic with ms works version 8.5 on . When I receive a doc. attachment via e-mail it opens by default in Notepad or WordPad and is unreadable i.e.

I don’t seem to have the option to save as a word doc and the options suggested are not compatible.
Any suggestion for a non techie….thanks.

The .DOC file may have been created in a version of Office that is not compatible with MS Works.
A way around this would be to have the document sent to you in another format compatible with MS Works 8. You could try a 97-2003 version.0 -
try downloading openoffice for free, im sure this worked for me, before i had microsoft office.0
