income protection

Hi. After reading the section on Life assurance, I want to get quotes for level term assurance and income protection. However, the search engines (eg Cavendish) only quote for Family Income Benefit which appears to pay out on death or specified critical illness. The reason I was interested in income protection is to get away from the critical illness restriction. I am emloyed on contract, so am unlikley to get (and am not interested in having) redundancy cover, just cover for incapacity due to illness. Is there a difference between income protection and Family income benefit? Any clarification and pointers much appreciated.
