The Renault Clio - never try to improve your life methinks.Deleted_User wrote: »What car did you get and what problems does it have?0 -
The problems are with the ECU unit (I think its called that).0

£500 should get you a car with a full years MOT, £950 for three weeks could be asking for trouble.0

If you knew the car had problems then you should have just walked away. Better the devil you know and should have had your current car fixed. I've spent loads fixing my car as there is no point going out and buying a £500 banger to replace mine when it will just have the same problems come up.0

I actually didn't know the car had problems - once the things were fixed (pre MOT) it was fine. I should have just listened to everyone on this forum who advised me against it. Nothing I can do now I guess. I'm stuck with it. I didn't think it was an old banger either.0 -

I don't regard my car as an old banger either as it is worth more to me than it's monetary value.
My MOT is due in a month time so hoping I don't have any unexpected bills pop up on it.0 -
I'm not a mechanic but a family friend had the same issue with the ECU. After reading many forums, they discovered that you could buy a second hand one (they did off eBay) but it had to be same year and same spec. It took a few days of fiddling but they got there and it worked. They had very little mechanical experience but there was a lot of advice on forums. Maybe this could be a possibility rather then scrapping it?0

Thank you but the car is already in the garage and they have sent the ecu thing away for repair. Wish I could have thought of that earlier.:(AlwaysSmiling wrote: »I'm not a mechanic but a family friend had the same issue with the ECU.
