    Legally speaking, Employers Liability, National Insurance and Motor are generally the only statutory insurances but there are a very small number of professions where Public Liability is also required.

    Out side of statutory requirements you can also have contractual requirements, for example with contractors it is often a requirement that they hold Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance.

    On top of that there are many other classes of insurance (product liability, D&O, fidelity, buildings, contents, key man, key asset, business interruption, environmental liability, crisis management, product recall etc) which may or may not be appropriate depending on the individual businesses circumstances.

    Most contractors would buy a simple PI/PL (plus EL if needed) combined policy assuming their work does include "advice" or expect knowledge and not just doing a manual job
