Most effective way to convert foreign currency

My wife's parents have given us a sum of cash in Chinese Yuan for the birth of our first child. It's around 20,000 yuan so the slightest difference in rate will make a difference. Is the most cost effective way of converting this to GBP to look around the usual money changing suspects and find the best rate?
Thanks

Your options will be limited to banks and may be a couple of FX transfer specialists.
