I dont think your going to get anything recient of that size for your budget. especially with an automatic gear box.
£1000 will get you somthing with a high mileage that is about 9-10 years old.
I would check autotrader https://www.autotrader.co.uk search for anything up to £1000 in your area then use the more options to narrow the search down to automatics. there were a few up in my area so you shouldn't have too many problems find somthing I just dont think you will find anything newish well in the last 5-6 years anyway.0 -
Hi passworld,
Welcome to MSE
You should get more help with this on the Motoring board so I've moved your thread over there.

You should get following automatic cars within your budget
Old shaped Nissan Micra
Nissan Sunny
Vauxhall Astra/Corsa
Rover (forgot exact model name)
If lucky, you can get Nissan Almera of similar sized car within that price range.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
I switched to an automatic earlier this year.
finding something with a low-ish mileage was difficult and there were a couple I almost bought and then didn't because of things I'd read online.
I spent £1800 on a 1997 Honda Civic Coupe with 90,000 on the clock in the end and I'm very happy.
Down at the £1000 mark there was a choice of early plate Mondeo's, mid 90's Escort (advised to avoid because of the type of gear box they have), mid 90's Rover, big old Volvos.
I would use autotrader to get an idea of the cars available in your part of the world."Stay Wonky":D

You're not going to get a new shape Focus or much else for £1000...
I'd steer clear of french autos, at your budget and look at japanese cars as they know a bit about building reliable autos...The money, Dave...0 -
For that kind of budget, I'd be looking at something from the Japanese, namely Toyota, Nissan...
They're going to be reliable and well built and should last a long time if looked after properly.Lack of money is the root of all evil.
