I worked up until the week before I started my final year. Ordinarily would have worked over Christmas and Easter, but... I've been incredibly busy this year. Not just coursework, but job interviews and all of the extra curricular stuff I've been doing to make myself employable.
My friends and family pointed out that it just wasn't worth me working over the holidays when I had finals to revise, plus I really needed a break.
I know plenty of people who've been working term time during their final year - but we're talking a few hours and here and there, and easily cancelled during essays crises and exams.0 -
I worked all the way through my final year (I got a first too). It's not a bed of roses, but it's not impossible either. TBH there are 112 non-sleeping hours in a week, if you have 20 hours of lectures then it still leaves 92 out of which to find a few for a part time job.0

i guess it depends on how much time you intend to put in at work? i work 15 hours a week (all over the weekend), so as long as i am disciplined about how i use my time during the week, i dont forsee any major problems.
the only thing that will change is that i intend to take my holidays around exams and coursework deadlines to give myself more breathing space.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I work 24 hours a week at the moment, I have to give 2 weeks notice so I am intending to hand my notice in the first week in Sept, which should give me a week off before Uni starts again for my final year... don't reckon I could manage to work, look after a toddler and meet the demands of my course in the final year so something is going to have to give!!
I think it's down to personal choice, why not work over the summer then hand notice in later, you could save enough money to see you through your final year comfortably rather than struggling to pay for everything?

i wont struggle even if i quit now have saved over the last two years, reason id quit so soon is (i know it sounds petty) they wont give me one day i want off, just really annoyed me so dont want to work anymoreYes Your Dukeiness0 -
yeah i worked about 20 hours in my last year of uni- which i cut down to about 15 when it came to diso needed to be finished, exams etc.
also worked 15 hours a week while doing my masters.
my mate is working full time AND doing his last year of uni (6 out of 8 modules)
so yes you can work, you can have a social life and still do well0 -
I quite my job just before my final year and tbh I think I'd do the same again.
I've no doubt that I could have carried on working and still performed at the same level in my degree, but I'd have been a lot more stressed, so I think I made the right call giving myself plenty of time to relax.0 -
I haven't done any paid work this year during term time, but I have done volunteer work, usually taking up 10 - 15 hours a week of my time.
It's absolutely do-able as long as you're disciplined and efficient about making the best use of your time. In fact, I find I can get more done when I'm a bit busier - it forces me to be efficient!0 -
Its 100% down to attitude.
I worked 20hrs a week throughout my final year. Never had a problem handing in coursework on time and walked away with a First.
On the other hand, i know plenty people who never worked, spent the whole year in the bar, got extensions for coursework and extra exam time due to 'stress' and still managed to fail.0 -
i've been working 40 hour weeks alongside full time uni hours and plan on doing do all next year which will be my third.
people that say dont work are silly. i've done extremely well in both years so far and work hasnt affected it at all. granted i am strapped for time and wouldnt recommend working full time to anyone, but i think 20 hours a week part time should be fine0
