Broken oven - scrap metal?

Hiya,

I have a built in oven and it broke last weekend and we have a new one on order.

We have taken it out of the kitchen and it is currently stored in the shed but we do need to get rid of it.

I can take it to the local tip but does anyone know if I can get any money for it as scrap metal? Who would I need to contact? What would I need to do?

Thanks.

A couple of years a go I gave my son a hand to change his cooker . . .

Dumped the old one on his drive and went back in to fit the new one, cleaned up, had a cuppa and it was about 2 hours later we went out to load the old one into my pick-up truck intending to take it to the tip . . . it had gone :rotfl: saved me a job :j

Similar thing happened when I helped my other son remove a gas fire with central heating back boiler (he'd had a new CH boiler fitted so this was now obsolete)

Carried the very heavy fire and back boiler out and dumped it on the drive . . . we hadn't got back in the house before a tatty Transit pulled up and the driver jumped out asking "Dont you want that?"
We let him take it. They must have some kind of built in scrap detection system
Must be worth something but making a special trip to the scrappers with one item may not be cost effective . . .

It'll have a value. But probably £2 - £3. Leave it out the front and it will soon disappear

as others have said, put it out the front & the p1key's will have it gone before you get back in the house

My cast iron bath in two bits was in the front garden for barely 30 seconds before i got a knock on the door, i think there must be special cctv for scrap metal scavengers
  • My nextdoor neighbour put a cooker out on the front ready to take to the tip just as I was walking to the newsagents. It took me less than 10 minutes. When I got back he was in his front garden ready to go to the tip and the cooker had gone.

if you want to get a couple of quid for it - bung it on e-bay (collection only and cash on collection of course!). I did this with an old dishwasher - didnt get much but was more than nothing and I didnt have to transport it.
