I would recommend you open a Bank Of America Current Account next time you are in Florida,

I have had mine for over 10 years, gives a Visa Debit card as standard and you can have the statements sent to your UK address,

All you need is your UK passport and pop into any branch loads in FL

Basic accounts have a $5 a month service charge, or if you keep over $2000 in it the account is free, also has the advantage if you get any US$ checks or Money orders (ebay for example) you can deposit them there,

They have a Bank By mail service so if the exchange rate is good, you can mail them a UK£ Cheque from the UK and they will convert it at the current bank rate and deposit it to your BOA $ Account, I do this regularly and it takes about 7 days for mailing the cheque from the UK to it showing as cleared in the US$ account

They have an excellent Online Banking service so you can keep track of your account from the UK no problem, and you get a printed statement thru the post monthly

Another bonus is they issue the "Security" Visa card with your photo on it and the signature printed on the front, so this removes the need to provide ID that is required for card purchases in many parts of the US

Great accounts and no hassle from BOA

Also you can use the BOA Debit card in the UK free to withdraw cash without fees if you need to at any Barclays ATM
