With some travel/flight companies the departure tax is included in the flight/package price, but sadly not with Thomson apparently! :( But we did manage to barter the travel agent down a bit on the cost, so that kind of outweighed it.

Ah right! We flew with BA so presumably they included it! :o

Trip wise we loved Xel-Ha, all food and drink was included in the price and there was loads to do.

We did Tulum by ourselves. Got the colectivo outside the hotel - 70 peso for both of us to get there (plus 70 back).

It was about 57peso each to get in.

We did Chichen Itza through Thomson, this was around about £70 each.

We also used the colectivo to go into Puerto Del Carman for gifts and went to Walmart for some spirits to bring home (Tequila cheaper here than the airport!)

It should still be Whale Shark season whilst you are there. We ended up not doing this as our friends went and the weather was shocking and they had a bad trip so decided against it - it is supposed to be amazing though!

Our hotel was wonderful. Loved every second and had no complaints. Staff couldn't do enough for you. I will try to do my review on Trip Advisor at the weekend as I haven't got round to it yet.

Let me know if you have any other questions I may be able to answer.
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

I would take Pesos rather than Dollars. I've been to Mexico several times as my other half is from there and we always pay in Pesos. They are readily available in the UK at travel agents. Talking to people there it seems the banks can get quite funny with them about changing money, and they often lose out due to exchange rates and service charges.

As others have said customer service is top notch in Mexico and people are genuinely smiley!

I agree with nuttyrockeress, take the colectivo (local bus) to places. If you want a truly Mexican eating experience I recommend a local market for tacos or nieve (icecream sorbet). The markets are nothing to look at, and you might wonder why you wandered in, but the displays are fantastic, prices are good, and it's a real side of Mexico.

    Enjoy!!!

    Hi Laura
Regular visitors to Mexico, yes take Pesos and another tip have the right change for the taxes at the airport because they never have change and just rip you off.
