Hi
Im looking to buy a 42in plamsa tv in the next month.
I have been looking around and not really sure what one to go for, but I like the look of this one
SAMSUNG PS42Q97HDX 42 INCH HD READY PLASMA TV (cheapest price I have round is £696- is this a good price?)
I have £1000 to spend and would love if anyone knows of any deals as I am after a stand and surround sound.
Please can anyone help me.

You will get a bigger screen size for the price in a plasma but the quality will be better on LCD.
Bank holiday is the best time to get good deals, check our Argos and Currys. Samsung is good, we have a samsung 40" LCD its sold for about £800 these days.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car

Very subjective, I know plenty of people who actually prefer the "quality" of plasma to LCD. There's no point in debating the quality issue, it's down to the OP to go and have a look at Demos themselves. Different people have their own preferences. "Quality" isn't a specific quantifiable measurement either and different people will have different priorities on what they consider contributes to the quality. LCD may be able to produce higher resolution, but plasma has better response times and a higher contrast ratio."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You may also want to check out John Lewis, they offer a 'bricks and mortar' price match, that is, if you see the same tv on the shelf in another store, they will match the price, but chuck in their 5 year warranty. They do match some internet stores, but only those with bricks and mortar shops. From memory, they price matched Empire before. Check out http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php they have lots of info and also a specific thread on the JL pricematch.0

My friend just got a panasonic PX 70 for around £800 online
very nice t.v. and a plasma if that floats your boat rather than LCD
plasma/lcd debate is a big one so consider your options before you buy - I have to say for watching standard def his tv does look very good - highest res I have seen on it is DVD over progressive scan and that looked great - I'm sure it would perfom will at HD as well!0 -

Sure I agree , you only need to stand in Currys with a plasma one side of you and an LCD the other and to me the difference in picture is obvious and i'm not technically minded. Like you said the OP needs to look at both.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car

So long as you are standing the proper distance away. I was pretty sceptical of plasmas until my dad bought a 37" one and I have to say it's very impressive, although it is a panasonic so pretty much the best plasmas you can get. If it had been my choice I'd have gone for LCD but after seeing the plasma for a while now I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
I'll probably wait for the organic LED tvs. Just roll it up for storage"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

yeah but be careful when doing this personally I would never trust what I see at Curries you don't know if they are tweaking settings because they want to sell a particular brand / technology.
Personally I still prefer a good quality CRT who gives a damn if they stick out and don't look cool.
Actually I saw a Samsung true HDMI CRT at a customers house recently and it looked drop dead gorgious! Fast complicated images didn't break up there was no posterisation and the colours were crisp! Not sure if you can get one anymore though...
I really hate it when fashion dictates technology for no aparent reason0
