Hi
I was on my internet banking on Monday and sent out all my payments covering my rent, bill etc. I checked last night and none of them where showing. As I'm with Alliance & Leicester and there internet banking is !!!!!!, I assumed it hadnt taken the details.
So I went and done it all again last night, more than 24 hours later. So when I check today there is 2 sets of payments showing, I'm -£477 and I dont get paid again till the end of the month (June). My tax credits will go in each Thursday at £100 and it will come off the balance but then I've nothing to live on for the next month.
Is there anyway I can reverse one set of the payments, A&L are no help at all and I have no idea what to do
Please help
Cate

I seem to remember I once had a problem like this. I can't remember whether the available balance reflected my instructions, whether the payments were listed in 'pending payments', or whether they just disappeared into the usual A&L 'ether' for 24 hours before re-appearing as actioned.
However, and for future reference, you can check your 'event log' as you log out to make sure their system has registered your instructions.0 -
Thanks!

Cate,
First of all, contact the payees to see if they will send one set back. If you explain your situation, maybe some of them (perhaps the larger institutions) will CHAPS them back for speed? Should mean you'll get something back in 4-5/7-8 days hopefully.
Contact your bank to see if they'll grant you an overdraft for a month or so. Ask them to waive any fees to be charged as a goodwill gesture since you were 'thrown' by their system - maybe offer to meet them half-way and accept the debit interest? After all, it's obvious that you made a second duplicate set of transfers, as opposed to negligently (mis)managing your account.
Use a credit card.
Borrow from friends.
Good luck!0 -
Sincerely Thanks for helping, I'm just panicing. I'm going to contact them tomorrow. I dont have any credit cards and the bank wont give me a temp ovr draft even just to the end of June. I have no close friends to ask for help. I'm just going to have to stretch what I have at home, I'm just in complete and utter shock, I'm upset now but maybe I'll think of something in the morning

I once made the same mistake with Vodafone, after 6 weeks of being promised a cheque was in the post i sent an email stating that i was preparing to take them to court if i hadn't received the cheque within 7 days plus cost for letters and phone calls on top. They paid up in 3 days. Don't bank on it coming through too quick. Also i don't see why your bank cannot file an indemnity claim for this money0 -
Is it worth setting up direct debits or standing orders for the ones that accept it to avoid this happening again?0

Monday was a bank holiday, which may explain why the payments weren't processed Monday night.0

If these are recurring bills, rather than waiting for a delayed refund it may be more efficient to offset the overpayment against the next bill. So you can spend/live off any money you would have saved towards the next bill.0
