Help stop the growing crisis of food poverty in UK

Options
Food waste is a major issue. We throw away 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year in the UK, the majority of which could have been eaten. Today people across the UK will struggle to feed themselves and their families. Redundancy, illness, benefit delay, debt and paying for the additional costs of heating during winter are just some of the reasons why people go hungry. Freegive free food group connects people who are giving and getting food items for free in their own towns. It's completely free to join. Free food group is active in UK. Please find a group near you.

Please help feed local people in crisis. The Free Food Group aim is that no child or adult goes to bed hungry in UK.

This is how to find a group near you:

1. Go to freegive.co.uk
2. OR go to google and type (freegive)
3. At freegive home page click on this link (Free Food Groups OR UK free food groups)

There will always be times when emergency help will be needed. Though recently I believe more and more people are living payday to payday.
I think what we need is a little more education on food budgeting. I don't think its beyond most peoples means to set up such an emergency store. Just by buying one extra item a week for example. So then you build up a supply of non perishable goods which can be used when needed.
I think we are too reliant on banks and supermarkets these days and need to gain a little self sufficiancy back.
    Back on the trains again!

Cancel sky, stop drinking and smoking then I'll support food banks.
  • Ntb has a point. I see children with iphones, expensive brand name clothes, countless newsitems showcasing alleged poverty in homes in LA areas where expensive gadgets can be spotted and children eating burgers and chips. I've eavesdropped on conversations of single mums spending £500+ on birthdays etc. Can you not see the reasons why donations are not so forthcoming?

    Sadly, it doesn't end there...

Yes, there are a few disadvantaged groups about but we are now expected to see and hear this 24/7 and TV as well. But do I want to see deliberately timed, flea infested montages of african communities while eating my tea? Do I want to constantly courted in town centres to set up direct debit plans to these groups knowing my money is going to the hawker, and not the cause, for the next 2 years?

    I think not.

Charities are fast earning a bad name, and it's a real shame. Whatever happened to the erstwhile oap with a smile holding a donation pot?

give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime...

Charity continues to fail. How about lobbying local government to give very small plots of land to the poorer people so that they may grow their own food.

has the double effect of getting people out of their chaotic houses, gets kids mingling, is all positive really.
