On the Start Up Menu, How do I delete the options that show which have been deleted from my PC.
Also how do I know which options I actually need checked?

I think you can just right click on them and delete. If this doesn't work let me know, I think I know another way but I need to know which windows you have!

Thanks for your reply, right clicking is no good, I'm using Windows XP Home

Not sure why you can't! I have Windows XP and can right click on anything I a want to delete.

Just after thinking of another way:

1. Open My Computer
2. Double click on the drive in which Windows is installed (Example Drive: C)
3. Next Double Click on Documents and Settings
- depending on where the start menu item is you will need to either double click on the folder "All Users" or the folder with "Your Name"
4. Then double click on start menu.
5. Then double click on the folder "Programs"
6. All the start menu folders are stored in this folder!

You can now delete any which you to not need.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and find Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup. It downloads a VB script which removes the disabled items from your registry.

As for which options need to be checked, I think it's a case of determining whether the particular program is still installed on your computer. You could do this by looking at the Command column and seeing whether the folder path and .exe or .dll referred to actually exists or not. Or you could do it by trial and error and uncheck one option at a time, reboot the computer and seeing if any startup errors or messages occur. Also, search the web to find out what each program does, and whether it can be safely disabled.

However, be very careful using msconfig, as you might cause Windows to malfunction. Also backup your registry before changing it directly or via msconfig.
