Average Speed Check cameras

I've heard that if you change lanes somewhere on a stretch of road when Average Speed Check cameras are operating, the process doesn't work. Is this true or a myth?.
How does it work? Do the cameras identify vehicle regn numbers by lane when entering and leaving the Average Speed zone?

This apparently used to be the case in the early days of Average Speed Check cameras, but I believe the relevant authorities moved to close this gap in the certification process.........but the "myth" still lives on!

100% total myth. In the early days this was possible but was nothing to do with the technology involved but rather the terms of the type approval at the time, which has now been tightened up.

It's actually if you change cars between speed cameras - as long as both have CD's hanging from their mirrors and non-reflective number plates as well.
