Blocked drain

The drain on the pavement outside our house which I think contains our water meter is blocked and full of water. Who is responsible for clearing the drain?

If it is a public drain then the county or city council is usually responsible.
Your water meter won't be in a drain.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Drains tend not be be on pavement, more in the gutter. Do you mean a little square cover about 4" wide on pavement? I have one of these on pavement outside my house no idea whats in it never opened it.0

It's not a drain, it's just a bit of pipe in the ground to provide access to a water meter. I think that I am right in saying that it belongs to the water company and not to you. If they want to read the meter they will either bail it out or put a drain hole into the bottom of the hole. I must say that I have never seen water laying in the bottom of my meter hole. It could be due to a high water table level. Although, I suppose that there could be a leakage in the connection to the meter. Either way, it is down to the water company.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
;)Its called an"Inspection Pit";)
You may have a leak or it could just be the weather, either way it the water boards responsibility to keep clear, unless you actually need to access it maybe to turn the water off or check the reading, in which case its your choice;)Signature removed0 -
Well I called Severn Trent out and there's definitely a leak but because it's between the hole in the ground containing the water meter and the end of the pavement so it's not our responsibility thankfully.
