Can I insist that they send a courier to pick up item ?

Options
I recently purchased something online (value about £30), 2 weeks later the item still hadn't come. I contacted the retailer and they arranged for a replacement to be sent, the following day I received an email from them saying that the first item had been delayed by the courier and that if I did receive 2 to send one back via freepost. Now it's bit of a pain for me to get to the post office. If I do receive the 2nd item can I insist that they arrange for a courier to come and pick it up ? They've said that if I do receive the 2nd one and don't contact them by a given date that they will charge me for it

Why is it a pain for you to go to a Post Office?

So would you rather sit and wait for the first item to arrive because the company had better things to do with their time than post the second item? they have been good enough to post a second one no questions asked - so why not return the favour and just post the other one back if it does arrive? is it really that much out of your way?
  • As the 1st item was delayed by the courier, all you should have to do is to refuse to accept the package if/when the courier tries to deliver it.

If you do this then it should be returned to the seller.

    What favour?
The goods ordered were not delivered due to something that the courier did or didn't do and if this courier was contracted by the seller then it is up to that seller to either send a replacement item or to refund in full.

The favour being that they are not waiting on the courier to confirm it's a lost parcel before sending a replacement, this can take weeks.

Good CS deserves a little help in return, a selfish attitude like the Op's will stop them being so helpfull for the rest of us in the future.

If you are in when its delivered just refuse to accept the second item. It will get returned to the seller.

A company stating that they will attempt to charge a customer when they are not legally entitled to do so does not sound like good customer service to me.

Id find waiting around for a courier far more of an inconvenience than dropping something in freepost to a post office....
  • It all depends on how easy/convienient it is for the OP to get to a post office.
The nearest one to where I'm staying in the UK is only a couple of miles away but there is no way that I would get a chance to pop in during the day unless I took time off work.

I can't see why the retailer can't simply contact the courier company and ask for the package to get redirected back to them if/when it turns up.
