Warning if buying alcohol in IKEA

If you pick up alcohol in the food area and no one is at the till you are told to go to join the long queue for the hotdogs. If this happens put the alcohol back and leave the store.
Why?
After waiting in what is always a long queue for hotdogs once you get to the hotdog till you will be told to go back to the food area till. You then have to wait until the hot dog till operative closes down the till, walks to the food area and opens the food area till.
What a fantastic system.

Yeah, akvavit and fruit flavoured cider. Both of which are a bit of an acquired taste. For me akvavit yes - funny fruity cider noUnless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0

Until IKEA arrived in the UK Kopparberg cider was unheard of. They used to sell large cans for 99p,they also sold a non alcoholic version in apple and pear.
A few years ago they dropped all the alcohol and only sold the non alcoholic drinks.
We visited today and its like a Swedish off licence. Kopparberg in bottles for £1.75, also in cans with cloudberry or raspberry, light lager, dark lager, schnapps and other items, including party packs of beer.
But if you can't pay for it its a waste of shelf space!0 -
Not just issues with alcohol.
After standing in a queue for about half an hour, my partner loaded up the car and noticed one of the plant pot saucers (attached with plastic wrapping on the bottom) was broken.
He went to the customer service desk and asked if he could go and swap it for one that wasn't. They said no, that they'd have to refund him and he'd have to stand in the queue for another half hour to buy an unbroken one... He just got the refund instead.
It's like they go out of their way to make everything as long-winded as possible.. even down to the lay-out of the store. The amount of times I've wanted to run out of there screaming!

Why do you think everyone will have the same issue buying alcohol that you had.....Sounds more like they had one member of staff not trained in alcohol sales (not surprising if the booze range is new) or maybe they were under age so couldn't sell it. I doubt it's a permanent problem or even a storewide one.
I love Ikea - but only first thing in the morning early in the week-I won't go near it Fridays.Sat.Sunday or after about 4.30 pm LOLI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

The only part of Ikea stores that is licensed to sell alcohol is the little swedish food market and the till point there. If they sold you alcohol from another till it would be an unlicensed sale and could cause them some trouble (6 months prison and/or 20K max fine).Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

Further to that is is more likely that the EPOS system might not have had alcohol on the Hot dog till, therefore having to go to one that does have it.browneyedbazzi wrote: »The only part of Ikea stores that is licensed to sell alcohol is the little swedish food market and the till point there. These things may well be true but it doesn't alter the fact that Ikea have organised things in a way that is very wasteful of their customer's time.
Although, from what I've heard of them, that is not something they have a problem with. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
