Santander Maturing Fixed Rate Bond

Any other depositor allows you to tick the box on the maturity form to state that you want to withdraw all your maturing funds and have them paid into your bank account or receive a cheque NOT SANTANDER!!! Even to renew the bond for another year, which is a NO NO only offering 1.40% (last year was 3.20%) you have to ring them to discuss which option is "best for you" or make an appointment at your preferred branch.

Ring them and then sneer as a response when you glibly reply "I can get much better rates elsewhere. Thanks for wasting both of our time due to your employer's policy."

I'd still have to sit and listen to their sales pitch etc as they have to go through the whole exercise before they grant your wishes even if I kept saying "give me my money back". My children worked in similar work whilst students so I do sympathise with the staff on the end of the phone. Santander are trying to lure people in with their 123 account which offers better savings rates but not an exactly mind blowing rate 2% for a 15 months bond.
