Morning all. My DD is moving out (again) in a couple of weeks but this time it will be for good and it will be the first time ever that DH and I have not had either of the kids living at home. We can't wait!
But, you are all right in that they don't take everything with them. I've been helping DD sort out her stuff. There was:
Things she's taking with her
Things to go to charity shop
Things for the bin
Things for the memory box (translated as our loft!)
And I have a huge pile of shredding to do today as she is a bit of a hoarder.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

I quite agree with all of you on here saying that you have all been left with your childrens stuff , I dont have a thing in the house from my 2 leaving , thats cos I cant handle clutter, BUT one of the sheds that I use everyday is cluttered to the hilt, with ; 2 huge disco speakers , that son says "they are no good" so why have I got them........2 paste tables , 2 spare tyres , tools , 1 motorbike , and various smaller tools.....He left home 22 years ago..!!.....He is moving on December 1 st to a nice place with 2 sheds , so ive warned him that if its not all gone by first week of December Iwill take it all to the dump , he knows I will dump it all , so we will see if im able to get back in the shed by christmas...
Everytime you try to get to something in the shed its a dam trial to see how quick I can fall over.......
Its very wet here today , but its not cold , cant believe this weather and how warm its been , although we should have a frost tonight , I love frosty nights and sunshine that follows .....
Hope your all having a good weekend...SheilaMy motto is " one life live it ".....:)0 -
I tried these this evening:
http://thefoodcharlatan.com/2012/03/28/roti-buttery-indian-flatbread/
And boy were they good. Dead easy too (trust me on this one, I've been taking it very easy and these fit with that!)
They were a last minute thing. We decided to have a takeaway curry for dinner, so put the rice cooker on before hubby went to pick it up and while he was out I made a half quantity batch of them. Even if I'm taking it easy, the idea of paying a takeaway for cooked rice or flatbreads is abhorrent :rotfl: Total cost, less than 50c for 4 compared to a $3.50 for 1 from the takeaway. My rice I buy in 10kg bags when it's on special at $12.50, I can get 10kg for the cost of 4 lots of cooked rice from the takeaway.
All this being said, after eating the takeaway, I'm wishing I'd made the curry as well :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Rosanna79, for the past 6 years, one of the first signs that Christmas is really coming has been the school Christmas service from DS2's school - it is usually held in the village church, but was in the school hall for 2 years while the heating in church was playing up, but was back in the church last year. Radiators going full blast but coats still required in the mediaeval church next to a river! DS2 was in the infants choir for the first 2 years, then the juniors, & last year started the service off with the solo verse of Once in Royal David's City.
This year, he's at high school, & they have a celebration evening in the village church of high school village - again he's in the choir & again has the solo, so we'll be off to that on the 17th.
Wet day here again today, meaning that the planned family trip to the zoo to use up the Mr T vouchers that mum turned into zoo entry over the summer is postponed till a weekend after the grotto has closed as you can't use the club card tickets while the zoo has special events such as shriek week (allegedly half term but really most of October) or Santa's grotto (queue for ever so your child can have a cheap toy!).
Washing is planned instead... Much washing to do & all essential to have clean & dry (DS2's school uniform, my work clothes) or to be washed so it doesn't utterly drink (the wet bedding & DS1's work stuff that smells of fish - all done yesterday, but that stopped me doing the other loads yesterday). The clothes horse is currently occupied by DS1's bike leathers, as he went out with friends Friday night & appeared to have ridden his bike past a team of mud wrestlers (it was his birthday ;-)!) He washed everything in the bath when he got in, so his trousers are still damp. Suspect textile trousers would dry better, though would have cost more than the set of leathers he managed to score at a car boot sale for £5.90 (they would have taken 6 quid, but he only had £5.90 on him & they took that rather than wait for him to find me - nice people :-) ).
My parents gave DS1 a lovely big tool box for his birthday, so he spent a while yesterday sorting his stuff out - he could do with another so he's got 1 for tools & 1 for materials, so that's his xmas present sorted. Regrettably for me, his putting away all of his stuff that's been over the kitchen table for a week revealed a sub layer of my clutter which requires my attention today :-D
DS2 is procrastinating homework by making animals with hama beads. He needs to finish his music but needs the laptop for that so I need to be ready to sit next to him... So he could be finishing his art, but isn't. I can feel this day will require much deep breathing!0 -
Afternoon all from a wet and windy Kent......it was lovely first thing but gone down hill rapidly.
Mixed bag here - DD1's BF broke up with her last night so there was a lot of tears and upset.....they've been together 2 and a half years but obviously it's very difficult with him being in Scotland now for Uni. She's not to bad today - luckily it's kitten day so it's taken her mind off it somewhat.
Kittens have been running around like loons, playing, eating (pooping behind the sofa) - the normal kitten stuff. They are utterly adorable and have now curled up together behind the sofa under the radiator. Pictures on my homepage (click on my name on the left of the screen) - 3 of the other cats have met them so far and only one hissing incident....so far so good!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Pooky what an absolute example of perfect timing!!! The kittens will get her over a silly boy!! Lets be honest who needs boys when you have cuddly kittens.
manic day here, took littlies bowling today and then we packed, had to go out twice to buy extra stuff - when did she grow out of every pair of jeans she owns??? But we are now finally packed and ready for the off in the morning
sheila - we couldnt collect the car this weekend as we werent sure all the money would be in place - typically it was in yesterday so we could have gone but at that point I hadnt shifted the rest of the money in so we are stuck. I am seriously contemplating taking DS10 on the train tomorrow to collect it as I wont need to rush back for school.0 -

horrible wet day all day here so found blanket i had been crocheting age ago and did some more while cooking big roast dinner

Good evening everyone
Pooky I'm sorry to hear about your DD1 and her boyfriend, but YEAH!!! Kittens!!!I want a kitten, but I'd have to get rid of DH first as he is allergic to fur and feathers. As he takes me out to dinner occasionally I think I'll keep him for now
The best of luck getting the new car/bus kidcat
Well done with the vouchers and welcome back Softstuff
Well I made it out of the house today and I haven't had a nap, so that's a big improvement. DH and I went to The Range and got some picture frames and a load of Ch***tmas chocolate and sweets to post off with Sam the Elf to my nephew. DH has typed the letter from Santa and I've added in some reindeer/small child/whoever is pretending to be Rudolph this year food. http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/sweets/magical-reindeer-food/5025572058490 This, but it is cheaper in The Range. Aunties get to do silly things like that
I'm not sure when our Ch***tmas tree will go up this year. Probably on the 13th or 14th as that is the first weekend we have free time. We put up the very multi-coloured tree with every colour imaginable decorations and a few other decorations, but don't go over the top. DH saves that for Halloween. We will be home on the 25th, then off to my DPIL's on Boxing Day and home via my family on the Sunday. I now arrange things and tell my family what is going on, after being overlooked or invited to go there for Christmas day and then uninvited a few days before Christmas. I don't allow them the option of upsetting me any more. I know they love me, but sometimes they are all completely thoughtless about my feelings.
Time to go and cook roast pork and lots of veg for dinner. DS2 kept DH and I fed while we were ill, but he doesn't do green veg bless him.
Take care everyone xxxxxxxx0 -
Pooky,
sad for your poor daughter, seems to happen about the two year mark for some reason. Hard though just before Christmas bless her.
She will heal it just takes time ...and well, kittens too.x0
