Am in rented accommodation with parents' helping with the financial side of house purchase. Had an offer accepted on a house approx. 17wks ago. Since offer was accepted had no contact with Vendor's EA's & only 1 discussion with vendor. All communication has been through our & their solicitors (who have been pretty useless). Outstanding issues (building work & land ownership issues) which were raised quite early on in proceedings are still not resolved with no progress reports apart from "to follow".
Is it normal to keep in contact with vendor's EA's during the process as well as the vendor's solicitors?? Surely its in the EA's best interests (commission!) to make sure the sale goes through quickly & smoothly?? I don't feel it is unreasonable @ this point (17wks) to contact the vendor's EA's to give them nudge however my parents (who are actually buying the property) feel that its best to leave alone & that contacting the EA's "wouldn't be cricket!". Also could we as buyers contact the vendor's solicitors directly??

Nothing wrong with asking the agent what is going on if no-one else is communicating with you.
Normally if the buyer delays you have to tell the EA to stop bothering you! The fact that they aren't communicating might mean they are totally not in the loop, or that there is a serious problem and they are saving their excuses to pacify you to the last moment.0 -
If there are legal issues, the agent may well have nothing to do with it because the toing and froing is between the two solicitors and they can bring nothing useful to the party.I am a mortgage broker.
