connecting two computers in different buidlings

Hi i was wondering if its possible to connect two PCs together. the problem i have is that one is at my girlfriends house and the other is at her dads garages which is a few mile away.

can they be connected up over the internet through a private IP address or something along those lines??

    does it need to be a permanent connection , what do you need to do while connected ??

    i wouldnt think so, just so files and business details can be sent home without printing loads out.


    just spoke to her now she says permanent would be better and that all she really wants to do is surf the net at work but have it connected from home?
    the above would be better but might not be safe security wise?

    I use UltraVNC:

    It's a remote administration software which includes file transfer.

    If the word "few" means "not many" and there is a clear view in between, you could possibly connect with WiFi and a directional antenna.

    thanks for the advice ill have a look at those.

    FEW means 3 mile or so, so not a clear view.
