HSBC, they told ME I was sold PPI, forms to fill in

Afternoon, happy friday!
Having been blithely thinking the last couple of years that I never took up PPI, it appears I did. HSBC have written to me to say that Iw as sold it as part of a personal loan (been at least 10 years since I had one) and would I fill out the form for them to treat as a complaint and investigate.
I duly filled out the form, full of 'can't remember' boxes and will post registered next week.
Does anyone know if this approach is likely to result in a payment of anykind, or are they using a ploy to cover their backs. I'm wondering whether I should start the DIY process anyway?
Many thanks

By sending off the form, you've complained, there's no need to do it again...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

No one can know whether it will result in a payout, only the bank can say that, just be patient and wait.
Look on it as a bonus if you do get anything.
Thousands of people are getting these letters.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
you will - same happened to me with HSBC last year. They told me when I was on the phone to them, posted the forms to me, I returned them, and 6 weeks later I got £6500. I was pretty shocked......0

Since every complaint is dealt with on it's own merits (or lack of), it's unwise to compare one person's experience with another.Little_Vics wrote: »you will - same happened to me with HSBC last year
If the OP has a valid complaint it will be upheld, if not it won't be.0 -
fair point - although the question was whether a payment was likely or if it was a ploy. Given that HSBC flagged it themselves and are being proactive, I would be very surprised if it didn't result in a payout of some description.0

Every bank now has to write to every customer who took PPI, it doesn't automatically mean they were mis-sold. Although I agree the chances of success are enhanced over someone who simply makes a "cold" complaint.Little_Vics wrote: »Given that HSBC flagged it themselves and are being proactive, I would be very surprised if it didn't result in a payout of some description.0 -
didn't know that - I stand corrected.0
