Newham illegal parking cameras - how to proceed?

Dear all,
This is my first post and looking to start the challenge against Newham Council's illegal cameras.

I got a camera id'ed parking ticket just 3 weeks ago. I paid it immediately, but grudgingly as I had pulled up for a minute in the coach stop near the station to pick up my Mother (there is no where to pull up within 5 minutes walk of Stratford station)

I've just heard and seen the news on BBC that many camera in Newham are illegal, but they are refusing to repay fines that were issued!!

1.How do I find out if the camera that snapped me is an illegal one?
2. Then how do I go about appealing if it was an illegal camera?

Many thank
Rossy

Newham are saying they won't refund and that's a legal precedent proven by other councils. I'm no lawyer but I suspect the only way you'll get them to part with money will be with a claim in Small Claims Court. Use FOI to get the information to point 1.

Shouldn't have paid, the matter is closed.

You should always appeal a Council PCN all the way to adjudication IMHO because almost every case wins (of those thousands that we see on pepipoo forum). And most people win at adjudication even without a forum advising them. Councils don't tell you that and routinely decline initial appeals of course.

Next time appeal - and NOT just once, not just while the [STRIKE]discount[/STRIKE] bribe is offered.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
