Cruise insurance or not?

Hi
I have been looking at lots of insurances re our cruise for a family with no pre existing conditions around Europe.

Tesco's seem to come up ok, however it is not a special cruise insurance, but it does say it covers cruises.

Does it really matter that it is a general insurance?

Thanks for any advice

Didn't even know there was such a thing as "cruise insurance"...

I ticked the "I'm going on a cruise" box on the travel insurance application and that was it...

Maybe I should look into this...

Yes there are quite a few out there, they cover fees like if you were ill and needed to be taken from the boat ect.
Basically i would like an insurance to cover all eventualities and also pay out if a problem.

There are quite a few policies (generally cheaper ones) that specifically exclude cruises so you would need to check the Terms & Conditions.

I've been on many cruises and have just used standard policies but have always checked to ensure cruises aren't excluded. As long as you do that you will be ok.

The only time you would need insurance specifically for cruises would be when you are going on a long voyage, such as a world cruise, where the number of days away exceeds the maximum of most policies.

    Have a nice holiday.

    Thanks for this.

It is only a European cruise, 1 week cruise, 1 week in a hotel. I had been looking at Tesco insurance which seems reasonable.

    Thanks for your help

As long as the standard insurance doesn't exclude cruises you should be okay, but ring and tell them if you aren't sure. The thing to be careful about is some cruises go outside the area you may be insured for, such as if you have Europe only, so it's worth double checking each stop.

I always cruise on my standard annual travel insurance, and have made a claim for a cruise that I had to cancel due to a bereavement, which was paid without any fuss or delay.

For a short European cruise, any normal travel insurance policy should be ok, but to put your mind at rest, perhaps you could ask them if there is any cruise exclusion before you buy the policy
