natwest bank charges help

hi i'm new to here but could really do with some advice if anybody has some, basically me and my partner have 2 natwest accounts one basic and our 2nd which has a card where you can withdraw money from anywhere, this account has no payments going into it or any direct debits or standing orders coming out, we just transfer money over when needed and that's it.
This account some how ended up £7.54 overdrawn, like a said we hardly use it so didn't notice for a couple of days, so it took till then for us to transfer money over to clear it. We heard nothing else or even looked at the account until 2 months later when we received a letter informing us we where now overdrawn £143.09, we then check our account online and discovered the month after going overdrawn £7.54 we where then charged £12 for going overdrawn but the £12 charge actually made us overdrawn again and like i said we hardly use the account so didn't see this, so the month after the £12 charge they then charged us a further £48.00 which made us even more overdrawn and then a month later banged on another £102.00. Straight away i spoke to someone at Natwest explained the situation and they advised me to write an email to complaints which i did.
Now a month later the charges are £323.09 after another charge of £180.00 and we are now getting constant phone calls, i spoke to them yesterday where they demanded payment in full, i advised them that since my partner leaving the army due to ptsd we didn't have the money to do so especially with having our 4 children to clothe and feed. After 30 or so minutes they said they would accept a payment of £53 they would then close the account but a default would then be filed on our names or we can just leave it and they will take it further and take us to court..
My partner is now almost in a state of panic and we are both unsure what to do..
any help would be much appreciated

Hi Have you not had a reply to your original e-mail complaint. If Not leaving it for a Month rather than a week seems generous.
I would call the following number and explain the situation.
08457 888 444
Terms and conditions with regard to fees charged for unauthorised overdrafts are clearly laid out by Nat West http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g6/rates-charges.ashx.
Saying that if the original overdrawn position was only £7 and the rest is now charges i cant believe they wont help you.0 -
i got an email back saying thanks for my email and that someone would get back to me, what bothers me most is that i received no letter till i was £143.09 overdrawn...i'll give the number a try when im home later
