Recycling old shoes?

Not strictly a charity post but couldn't see a better place.

Is there anything you can do with old shoes which are in too poor condition to be worn/sold at a charity shop, other than throw them away?

I have quite a few such pairs collected over the years and wondered if there were any recycling schemes for this sort of material.

I know we can put ours in our Black Box for kerbside recycling collections. I presume they are stripped into their component parts ...

Charity shop rag man will take them normally

As above and the charity gets paid for them so please donate and it would be great if you told the staff they were for rags......its not always a pleasant job sorting!!!!!

Our local skip collects shoes. I think that if they are totally battered, they’re broken down and the parts recycled as appropriate.

our council collect them as long as they are pairs & tied together
