I bought a new bed on Saturday, House of Fraser, King size divan total price delivered £220.
It was in the sale because the base had a dirty mark on the bottom corner, should come out with a little effort and not seen anyway with the divan trim.
Same bed new still on sale in showroom for in excess of £1000.
Did a little haggling to get the price down to £190, £30 of the total price was for delivery.
So If you don't mind an odd mark for a good quality bed at a cheap price,
try haggling on the 'soiled' goods.
They really will let them go at a low price because they wan't them off the showroom floor.
Hope that helps0 -
You spend a third of your life in it, so within reason, I'd buy the best I could. Bought one last Sat., special offer etc etc, but made sure that it had a good matress, after all, that's the bit that you lie on. We've had divans for years, and always made sure to get the right firmness and pocket sprung matress. This time we've gone for a bed frame and separate matress, which incidentally accounted for 75% of the total price. We did find that we had to search for a decent sprung base on the bed frame. Places like Dreams, or MFI, tended just to have bare wooden slats laid accross the frame, cheap and nasty. Internet adverts were often vague, as to actual size and specification. I may be mean, well careful, so I resolved not to buy anything that I couldn't see and try out, regardless of how cheap it might seem, and I think that is sound advice. In the end, we got one from a local, independant retailer where we bought our last bed. Took a lot of searching before common sense prevailed. It's by no means the cheapest, but I'm confident that we will enjoy a good nights sleep, and that's worth a lot. If it seems expensive, divide the cost over, say, ten years, and that's the price of a decent kip for a whole year.
Beds are a bit of a rip-off though, aren't they? But then, most furniture is.0 -
I love my Ikea bed. We had to hacksaw off the decorative bit at the top to get it into our old house but i won't be parted from it, it's so solid. It was £127 for a kingsize fram about 6 years ago. They don't do it anymore. My aunty has one too, it's so great.
I think the mattress is most of it though. You need a decent one.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

IKEA seem to have tried to get their act together, on beds.
When we wanted a new one, a few years back, they were pretty poor - now, good range, IKEA stle prices & lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng warranty.(not sure how that works, 'cos bed suppliers have funny ideas about allowing for value of wear n tear)
But other Moneysavers have mentioned the sizes not quite being UK dimensions, so best check that if you go there!

You will find the best bed bargains on ebay.
I know that many people are very wary about buying items like beds from ebay. However if you follow a few guidelines then you can save up to 75% on the shop prices:
1) most important of all make sure that the seller gives a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
2) check previous feedback for the seller, and even contact previous customers to ask them about the seller.
3) use a company who display their phone number, so that you can talk to someone about your requirements (they want you to make the righ choice because it will cost them if you return it).
4) check the sellers return policy. Many sellers charge for postage on returns.....can work out very expensive if you have unpacked a vacuum packed mattress, and you don't like it.
5) try to use a seller who delivers using their own transport. Couriers often damage or misplace goods (believe me I know from experience).
Obviously you can't try before you buy, but for the saving it is worth the risk if you follow the guidelines above.0 -
What is it about Ikea that everyone else seems to see and I don't? Went round one of their places, in North London, never seen such a load of old tat since my one and only visit to Habitat. I know that I'm out of step, but we went for a sofa bed, couldn't believe my eyes, looked around at the other stuff, shook our heads and left, never to return. We obviously missed some vital spark somewhere.0

I've never been to Ikea, but loads of my customers have, and most of them contact me to buy a mattress in a continental size because the mattress they bought with a base from Ikea is very low quality, and are either uncomfortable or have prematurely worn out.0 -

We just got one of these... They are hand made, stained to colour of your choice, good range to choose from and good price I thought. Was £70 to deliver to Birmingham, and they assembled it.
Got the organic mattress, 'cos it was really comfy. Not too cheap, but there is a good range of mattresses too.
