Norwich and Peterborough card problems

My card works in ATM's, I can withdraw and/or check my balance on any cash machine.

However, when using chip and pin in shops it says the pin code is wrong, I'm entering the same pin as I do when using the cash machine.

Also It does not let me change the pin via ATMs, it says that the the pin change request has been denied by my bank. I tried to change the pins of other cards at the same ATM and they changed fine.

I am travelling abroad next Wednesday and is certainly too late to risk ordering a new card, does anybody have any advice?

Other than asking for a new card, NO.

Sounds like the chip has got scrambled up. So lost/stolen with a new PIN would be best.

Although giving the chip a wipe over can sometimes work.

Best advice ring your card provider. Could be they know why.

Rather than changing the PIN, have you tried the PIN Unlock function on the ATM?

Not a problem as such but two observations:

I am now registered for online banking with N&P and have used my debit card for purchases. What I have noticed is that my online balance doesn't reflect pending transactions such that one might be under the illusion that they have more funds available than is the case. Does anyone know if this is "normal"? It certainly hasn't been my experience with Barclays, Halifax or Nationwide and what I am having to do with my N&P debit card is manually remember how much has been spent (irrespective of what my balance reflects) so I do not go overdrawn and incur charges. It is a bit of a pain as it is different to spending cash where once spent is physically no more. Is this perhaps something to do with my debit card being an 'offline' one?

Also, I noticed a code 'x2x' after the word 'VISA debit' on my receipts and wondered what this is? Never come across it before.

x2x means that the card will only work in places where the card can contact the bank. I.e. It won't work on planes, trains and most tolls.

    Thanks Reclusive46.

So from what you say I understand that standard debit cards when used for instance on a plane, will authorise payments even if it hasn't been established that there is sufficient cleared funds in the account. Whereas my card will only authorise payments based on sufficient cleared funds in my account. Right?

Yes, the card will effectively only work if it can contact the bank to check funds, otherwise it'll just decline.
