credit file- whats missing?? and what next?

I just signed up for a credit report from Equifax and just browsing through it and theres a few things I thought may of been on it but are not-

-SKY tv,
-Home insurance (i pay monthly for contents insurance I thought this was credit)
-British Gas

Are these things not suppose to be on there or are they just missing from my report, any ideas?

Also,

My report basically reads that im on the electoral roll, no court history, the 2 things previous and one current thing I have (o2, Virgin tv and tesco mobile), are all good and paid fully, no fraud bits, no gone away records. 2 previous searches from I think an asda credit card I was turned down for 2 months ago.

I dont think I will be approved for credit but my aim is to be approved for a car, so I think I should get a small line of credit now which will be paid promptly, to try and build a good score. So maybe a store card or credit card if possible.
Im not sure where to start though as if I get turned down again it will begin to look very negative.

Any ideas are greatly welcomed

Most of those things only report if there is a default, if that. They don't record monthly status if the account is ok.
