    You can sue them and the courts can order that they pay you, however if they entered arrears in the first place it's probably due to financial hardship and the courts will not order someone to pay an amount they cannot afford, which could mean that they could pay a very small amount (£20/month for example) over a great deal of years at which point the time investment from the landlord makes it not worth it.

    I learnt the hard way - only ever let to people who can get the full weekly allowance, and set your rent at that.

    In essence, how are people meant to top up the rent when they are on benefits (I know some will blatently say from the benefits they receive...)

    Always find out what the bedroom allowances are for a given area, and set the rent at that rate. You will be surprised - some areas it can be better than you would otherwise receive.

    you have to allow the rent arrears to accumulate to 8 weeks, as I imagine you are getting the rent paid weither fortnightly, or every 4 weeks. (as a side note - a judge would throw the claim for possesion out if you had done your calulations out on Monthly rent - as ultimately they weill be paid 2/4 weeks.)

    so if the rent is £70 short on £400 say every 4 weeks you have to wait until the £70 becomes 8 weeks worth of rent, so c.£800. thats a lot of weeks.

    you could just give them notice.
