Egg have sent me a letter - is it genuine?

Hi
The company formally known as Egg contacted me and sent me a PPI claim form for a loan I had some years ago.
They say according to their records I had taken out PPI insurance with them and I may be owed some money.
Slightly suspicious as I'm unsure why a company would contact me for this reason if it wasn't a scam. Anyone got any advice? Thanks in advance

It's not a scam, it's an invitation to complain if you have reason to.Doodles1980 wrote: »Anyone got any advice?
If you have valid mis-selling reasons then complain, if not then don't.
Since there is nothing to pay (other than the price of a stamp) how could it be a scam?0 -
definitely not a scam. i had one from egg too back in Jan and had £1600 refunded in May
I think i used 1 stamp too

Firms are writing out to let people know they had PPI and invite them to complain if they have reasons to complain. It is not an indication of likely success as the letters are generated if you had the product. Having the product is not a mis-sale.

I didn't ask for PPI because I was covered for illness and accident at work so I was surprised when I got the letter because to my knowledge I didn't have it, i had declined it, that's why I thought it might be a scam.0

Thanks. I guess I'm on a strong footing if I didn't agree to it at all. Is it customary to negotiate or take the first offer?0
