connecting pc to tv?

Can I connect my PC to my TV?

Actually I know the answer to that is yes - but how do I do it? I have a VGA connector on my PC, and scart, s-video and RGB connectors on my TV. Can I install a TV capture card into my PC and simply connect s-video to s-video?

Is there any other way of doing it? I want to be able to view files I have on my HDD on my tv, plus streaming media such as sky anytime etc on my tv

Can any techies help please?
I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!! :(

    Desktop or laptop ?

I have desktop pc connected to the TV using a an ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card - it has vga out, dvi out and s-video out. I have a converter s-video to rca phono (came with graphics card) which I plug the socket on the front of my CRT TV . It's crap for general pc use but great for video.
  • its a desktop mate - so get myself a graphics card and I'll be cushty? :D

It'll mainly be video I'm watching anyway - or streaming stuff - like for example footy or summat?

Is the streaming quality any good?

The quality of streaming depends on the source. If ur streaming from a legit site like sky or ITV its good quality (not TV quality though), however if ur like me and you stream footy from china for FREE (EVERY match is on, 95% with english commentary) the quality isnt spectacular, but not bad (upto 500k is best on p2p streaming).
  • Do you have a new TV?

I have an LCD and use a DVI to HDMI cable so I can watch HD straight from my PC too :p

Please tell more about the football from China.

ps, I had a PC connected to a tv with a cheap £20 grapghics card. Just used s video to s video. To get readable graphics, like when using media player I eventually figured out that I could alter settings to make it much clearer. I think it was in some options for people with bad eyesight, something about high contrast ( cannot look anymore as on vista) .

Think its fair to say I will be doing both :p I have sky anytime - so I'll be watching stuff on that and also watching some of the p2p stuff. I alreasdy watch some on a laptop screen so know that if you sit back far enough - the quality is very watchable, so you confirming it is great, thank you :D

It could be right click desktop, then color schemes and set to high contrast .
or in control panel mess about with the ease of access settings.
In xp it really made a difference. Before the songs on media player on a 100hz 32" widescreen crt were almost unreadable but after it was fine. Like I say a real crappy graphics card though, not even agp it was an old pci one.

    ....about this football
