renting costs?

Why do rents keep going up when house prices go down?

Probably because the cost of maintaining a property keeps increasing, as do letting agents fees.

If you are renting a flat, service charges increase every year, often by about 10%. Landlords may well factor this into rental costs.

    This.

People are struggling to buy, so there's a high demand for rental properties. Property owners can make a good amount of profit by increasing their rental prices, knowing that for many tenants there won't be an alternative.
