I have 50% free space left on my HD. I would like to move photo's etc to my new 250g HD. Would someone be good enough to explain how I move files etc from one HD to another.
I'm sure this is basic to 99.9% on here but I am lost as to how to do this.
Thank you.
ps, I did a Google search and I was baffled by the results!

Open up Windows Explorer.
Select the files you want to move and right click and select “cut”
Right click on the new drive and select “paste”.0 -
drag and drop or copy and paste from your c: drive to your e: drive (or whatever the new disk is called).
Be aware that all hard disks can fail, the one in the PC, or the one in the external drive, so imo it is better to use the external as a backup device to keep a second copy of important photo's etc, especially if you have 50% free space on c:
This sort of thing can backup the whole of c: onto the external drive if you wanted to do that

do you store all your photos in your my documents folder at present. If so then the easiest thing is to change the location of this folder. To do this right click on the icon on your desktop or in your start menu. Where it says target delete the entry and replace with the drive letter which your External disk has been given. Ie;

you can check the drive letter by clicking on my computer and seeing the letter in there0 -

Many thanks for such a quick reply.
ps, my grandson was a mascot for Saints at Anfield a couple of years ago! LFC made him feel very special. After Saints, he is now a big 'pool fan.0 -
Thanks to both albert and JB for great tips! That's exactly what I want to do.
Many thanks0 -
If you use driveimagexml, that is really for backup (i.e. duplicate your c: drive files onto the external in case your c: drive dies), it shouldn't be used if you really want to move the files.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
