Refund from Credit Card

Im looking for advice!! Ive recently been on holiday and, due to the French Air Strikes, our flights back were cancelled. Our only option was to ask for a refund from RyanAir and book new flights back the following day.
We have now received notification from RyanAir that they have refunded the amount we paid for our original flights back to the source of payment which was our Barclaycard. We always pay the full balance off each month, so this has left us with a credit on the account. As we were travelling with friends, their money refunded is included and so they would like this back. We have asked Barclaycard to refund the credit on our card back to our current account so that we are covered for the cost of the new flights, as we are down by this amount, and also refund our friends their money. Barclaycard have now stated that they will not refund the credit and that we should use it for future purchases instead!!
Is this correct? I am not happy at all with this service as we have been loyal customers of theirs for years and have always cleared the full balance each month. I am considering asking them to close the card in order to get the credit back, but dont really want to resort to this.
Could someone please shed some light onto this and whether it is possible to have a credit balance refunded from our credit card to our current account?
Many Thanks

It is a nuisance, but quite normal. If you make a payment from the CC a/c to current account you will be charged as if it were a cash withdrawal. Can only suggest you use the credit card for food shopping, petrol etc to use up the credit and pay your friends with a cheque.0

You can phone them and request a cheque.0

Given the situation they should refund it back to your account free of charge.
But they will not be able to refund your friends. That is upto you.
I would go back and if they are still not willing raise a complaint. Do this on the basis that you are not allowed to hold a credit balance on a credit card. As wee as you are planning on spending on the card at the moment.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

Hi Lazeru
Sounds strange. I have my Barclaycard Statement in front of me and it says:
Your new balance is in credit
Please be aware that there is a credit balance on your account of £x, therefore you don't need to make a payment this month. If you want us to arrange a refund for you please contact Customer Services.
Does it say this on your statement?0 -
Sounds wrong to me.
I had a similar situation on my last months Barclaycard statement. I paid the full balance manually but the direct debit was still collected which resulted in a £380 credit balance on the Barclaycard. I phoned up customer services and they did an online repayment which hit my account the next day.
I'd try calling again and speaking to someone else0
