The transaction was accepted by the retailer, but later I had an automated call from Aqua ( 0845 331 2300 ) asking me to confirm the transaction, which I did.
Then the retailer contacted me to tell me the transaction has been refused by the card issuer
They phone you later, but only for information.
In this case your retailer seems to have a different tactic - accept the order regardless, and then chase the payment later."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
Perhaps they should have a SecurePass system like many other card providers use if they are so worried about fraudulent transactions online.
.
SecurePass and VbV have nothing to do with the card provider. They are systems that retailers have to pay extra for to Mastercard and Visa.
Which is why the likes of Amazon DO NOT use them.....
I guess the OP got a duff rep. Because No security systems works on a random basis for declining transactions. I had to berate one of our call center staff for telling a customer this.
These systems work on known fraud patterns.
If the SecurePass system failed then odds on it would be declined by a security system.
Just the same do not think that because you go through one of these systems you will not get a security check.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

Last time I checked, American Express SafeKey, MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa were free and merchants like to use it as it means they are protected from fraud chargebacks. Amazon just has a very complicated fraud system of its own, I don't know why they don't use the security code atleast for verification when adding the card though.0
