door moulding trim tape

I have a car with door moulding that doesn't hook into the door panel. It has some lugs that are use exclusively for guiding in the trim and all the attachment is done via glue.

I took the trim off to spray paint to colour code with the car and now want to put them back on.

I'm trying to use the best stuff made by 3m - but they're usually made for trade and are too long for just 1 job.

There are a few companies that sell 3m, although I don't know if they're referring to 3 meters or the brand 3m.

I've ordered this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AAWF9M2/ it has 3M written on the red tape and looks just like the larger packs by 3M. But on the inside it says Fu Yin?

I have also ordered and received this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00904QHAY/ I used it to test by attaching a metal rule to a calculator and the foam just unattached too easily.

I suspect that the Fu Yin stuff may be a Chinese knock off...

The foam stuff is not great. I get the rubber double sided tape from any local car spares shop. Around £5 a roll.
Stick to the moulding and warm with a hair dryer slightly and stick to the car.

tiger seal or any PU adhesive, good for sealing too.

double sided tape would work, but it will ether not make contact if really thin or make the trim stick out if really thick. PU on the other hand will fill any gaps in the trim moulding giving better contact but is a pain to remove and cost £15 (probably cheaper on amazon) and can be used to seal light clusters etc

    Hi

I've got ahead and just used the cheap black unbranded foam tape. I've decided to give it a good blast with hot air befory applying so that it does compress properly.

It should do the job fine, it's not like the door trim are heavy or anything.

The tiger seal will probably be more of a permanent solution - so I'm not keen on that. In case I feel like taking the trim off and putting the factory trim back on to sell.

The original factory trim also use foam tape so it can't be that bad!
